A Sampler of Events That Made History Between 1 AD and 99 AD
92 - Legio XXI Rapax is destroyed by the Sarmatians of Pannonia.
35 - Pliny the Elder is brought to Rome before this year.
81 - Domitian succeeds his brother Titus as emperor. Domitian is not a soldier like his two predecessors, and his administration is directed towards the reinforcement of a monarchy. By taking the title of Dominus ("lord"), he scandalizes the senatorial aristocracy. Romanisation progresses in the provinces, and life in the cities is greatly improved. Many provincials--Spanish, Gallic, and African—become Senators.
1 - Origin of Dionysian Incarnation of the Word
62 - A great earthquake damages cities in Calabria, including Pompeii.
32 - Crucifixion of Jesus (traditional date).
78 - Origin of Saka Era (India)
41 - Caligula, known for his eccentricity and cruel despotism, is assassinated by his disgruntled Praetorian Guards.
53 - Claudius secures a senatorial decree that gives jurisdiction in financial cases to imperial procurators. This marks a significant strengthening of imperial powers at the expense of the Senate.
82 - Dio Chrysostom is banished from Rome, Italy, and Bithynia after advising one of the Emperor's conspiring relatives.
